my most important vessel is my coffee mug. sadly, I recently dropped my all-time favorite coffee mug, and it shattered. Now I am searching for an exact reproduction... something with the same size, weight, ceramic thickness at the lips, the handle.. coloring is important too. I don't think I can drink my coffee out of a yellow mug.

Alas, I cannot seem to find it. I am like Goldilocks, looking for one that is "Just Right"... Somedays, I am so exasperated by the mug selection at home, that I go out for coffee. That is a sad day when I prefer to drink out of a paper cup than at home, in my pajamas, with a hot steamy mug of home brew...

This is a great container... enclosed, but slightly visible. Little clue to what's inside, but you still have to open the envelope to discover the full contents.

My favorite envelope size is the "booklet" type... a rectangular shaped envelope, with the opening flap on the long side. Square envelopes are also nice. And anything small... little paper envelopes are quite precious.

I just bought a nifty new 6 portable file container called
the Pendaflex Mobile file. You can hang 6 files lengthwise off a door or fold it up in case to port around your files. The files are removable and colorful. I quite like it. Haven't actually used it yet, but I like looking at it hanging on my office closet. www.pendaflex.com

what are some good ways you organize your files?

I'm in the market for a new kitchen garbage can, however I can't really justify spending $70-150 on one of those pretty stainless steel step on lid ones. Does anybody have one of those? Is it worth it? Do they really cut down on odor?

For my other garbage cans, I was thinking of buying vintage tins. Garbage cans can be beautiful too!

I also like the idea of using old medicine bottles as vases.

What are your creative containers?

Please describe the containers you use on the job.

As a teacher, we are recycled container whores. A common one would be coffee cans to put markers in for the kiddies.

As a writer, I have contained all my writing in a file cabinet, like an oven. Also, special manuscripts, I will put in their own box. Maybe the nicer the container, the more special the piece is.

Describe the largest and smallest containers you have seen / used. Any government conspiracy theories wrapped around them? What? For example, only 2% of shipping port size containers are searched. There's a tremendous amount of importing and exporting going on of what???? Let's get x-files on this one. :)

Professional Organizers

Hey, anyone ever shop at Organized Living (at this moment, all tribe thread ads quickly switch, the google engines going....)? I really like that store. I am such a sucker.
They need a frequent buying club or something. Yesterday I spent like $70 there, not too bad, i've done worse. I really don't think you can go wrong with buying a container. They make life so much easier.

Okay, I admit it, I once took a class at the Learning Annex on how to Organize Your Life by the Beverly Hills Organizer. It was surprisingly very good. Changed my life in 3 hours, a life time of skills presented to me in 3 hours. I gained a lot of clarity from that class. When you grow up in clutter like i did, how else you gonna stop the cycle? (swear, that's the only learning annex class i have ever taken!)

I still have other dark container secrets which I shall share later....

What did the pill box say to the hatbox after their first date (ala jerry maguire)? " You had me when you opened your lid. You contain me. "

Okay, okay, I know that was bad and that many of you will just want to de-friend me at this point. Whatever! I had to do it. If you can improve on that one, please feel free to do it. I am now going to get off of tribe and be irl.

Self-Contained Classrooms

A self-contained classroom is one in which all subjects are taught in the same room, usually applies to elementary school and continued ed high schools. Basically the kids don't switch classrooms. My teaching credential is good only for self-contained classrooms. I am not allowed on the loose in public education, that would require another credential.
Anyone else's work self contained? : )

Shipping container architecture.

One thing that has fascinated me lately is the trend of using overseas shipping containers as architectural building blocks. They're cheap, and the infrastructure for shipping them is already in place. It's a great way to create affordable housing.

The guy who owns The Brewery used several containers in his house, right across from the Brewery. It was covered in a recent Dwell magazine.

Here's a few links :
A house is a container for people, their stuff, and their containers.

In my efforts to create the next most popular tribe under Burning Man and Mac OS X users, I have started Container Theory. I mean, who doesn't love a good container? Let's make this THE universal tribe.
Okay, I know I am totally deluding myself. I hope we can have fun with our love of containers here, from the mini one in your desk to the mongo one hiding contraband in a port.
